Music magazine analysis
This is NME magazine. It is a music magazine and features articles mainly about rock and indie music, it has also become closely associated with punk rock.
The target audience for the magazine would be for ages ranging from 17 to 30. Additionally the magazine targets a male audience rather than a female audience. All this is shown through the contents of the magazine, the language and the colours used. On the front cover of this particular issue the 3 main colours used are red, blue and yellow. This appeals to the target audience of males as these particular colours, especially blue, are associated with the male gender.
Additionally the font used is very simple, large and easy to read. This again appeals to the target audience as it stands out to them, its straight to the piont, they dont have to stand and read a large amount to find out what is in the magazine which the majority of young men dont enjoy doing. The language used again appeals to the target audience, we see words such as 'cool' and 'canned'. These sort of terms would be associated with young people especially boys as this is the kind of language they use.
The main image on the magazine cover is of Vampire Weekend. This reflects the genre of the magazine as Vampire Weekend are and indie band and the magazine features many articles about indie bands. This appeals to the target audience as it will be people attracted to his kind of music that would buy the magazine. Behind the image of Vampire Weekend is the American flag, this shows where the band are from as they are American.
The magaizne advertising stories and article that will indice the target audeince in to buy the magazine such as 'Artic Monkeys album news'. Artic Monkeys are a band many boys this age are interested in therefore new information about their album will make them want to buy the magazine as this interests them. Overall many techniques and methods are used to attract a certain audience.
