College mag - Prior Press

Before creating my final music magazine I made a college magazine first to help me get to grips with the conventions of the magazine and how to use photoshop.

My college magazine is aimed at the students at Prior, mainly girls. The magazines aim is to bring the students at Prior the latest news of whats happening around the college and to provide help with their exams and how to cope with stress. Additionally I have tried to bring a fun side to the magazine by including fashion pages and real life stories from students at the college. 

The text font I used for the magaizne was a simple, clear font to make the text easy to read. I have added a drop shadow to some of the text to make it clearer to read agaisnt the image. Also I have put some storys in transparent boxes to make them stand out from the image. The 3 main colours I used were black, white and red. The red is to show the magazine was an autumn issue. This is because reds and oranges are associated with this time of year, also the red text links to red scarf in the image and the red, orange and green leaves on the floor.

The main image on the magazine cover is a medium close-up shot of Beth. The photo of Beth links to the main story in the magazine as it is a story about her. The image shows Beth giving direct mode of address (she is looking directly at the camera). This invites the reader in to buy the magazine and read it as Beth smiles at them in a friendly way as if shes their friend. 

On the contents page I have continued the colour scheme with the black, white and red text. Like the front cover I have added either a drop shadow or tranparent box around the text to make them more clear and stand out form the background image.The background image used, like the font cover, shows it is an autumn issue as it shows the red, orange and greean leaves. I added an e-mail address for the magazine at the bottom of the page so the reader can e-mail in their thoughts and opinions. Additionally I have added a messgae from the editor explaining what the magazine is about and what is aims to bring the reader.
